Fun Kid 4th of July Recipes
Holidays are a fun part of growing up and around every holiday is the tradition of food, fun and friends. Try one of these kid-friendly 4th of July recipes for a quick holiday treat.
NEW American Flag Pizza
Ingredients: 2 rolls (16.5 oz each) refrigerated brownie mix 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries 1 cup fresh blueberries 1/2 cup apple jelly
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. On a greased cookie sheet and roll out both packages of brownie mix. This will form the crust of your pizza. Place in oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until1 toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool on pan. While crust is cooling, place cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Using your mixer beat cream cheese until starting to smooth. Add sugar and vanilla and mix on low speed until light and fluffy. Spread cream cheese over brownie crust. With a knife spread apple jelly over the top of cream cheese. Place blueberries in upper left hand corner to resemble stars. Line strawberries across the crust to form stripes making sure to leave spaces of cream cheese for the white stripes on the flag. Chill one to four hours. Slice pizza and serve.
NEW Stuffed Potatoes American Style
Ingredients:
25 small new potatoes 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 2 cups sour cream 3 bunches scallions, chopped finely 2 cups bacon bits 1 cup butter or margarine Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
Place potatoes into large pan and cover with water. Cook on medium heat until water comes to a rapid boil. Continue cooking potatoes until tender. Cool to room temperature or even in the refrigerator over night. Cut potatoes in half lengthwise. Spoon out a small part of the center of potatoes. Place potatoes on plate and fill with the remaining ingredients. You can also place other ingredients in separate containers and allow your children to fill their potato with their favorites.
NEW Firework Shakes
Ingredients:
1 can of cherry pie filling 1 gallon vanilla ice cream Blue food coloring 1 container of cool whip Sparklers
Directions:
Separate as much ice cream from container as you will need for the number of shakes you would like to make. Separate that ice cream into two parts. Add enough blue food coloring to one half of ice cream to reach desired blue color. Mix together well. Place other half of ice cream into blender with pie filling. Blend well but be careful not to make ice cream too soupy. Place some cherry ice cream into ice cream cup or cone. Place blue ice cream on top of that. Continue to layer ice cream to the top of cup. Top with cool whip and serve with lighted sparkler inserted into cup or cone for decoration.
NEW Fourth of July Deviled Eggs
Ingredients:
12 eggs 2/3 cups mayonnaise 4 tablespoons mustard 4 tablespoons sweet pickle relish Salt and pepper to taste Paprika for garnish
Directions:
Place eggs in saucepan. Cover with water. Place on medium high heat and let come to a full boil. Boil eggs for approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Drain water and allow eggs to cool. Once cooled peel eggs and slice in half lengthwise. In a mixing bowl place egg yolks and mash with a fork to desired consistency. Once yolks are mashed place mayonnaise, mustard, pickle relish and salt and pepper in same bowl. Mix all ingredients together well. Taste and if needed more mayonnaise and/or mustard may be added to satisfy your taste. Spoon the yolk mixture into each egg half being sure to fill the egg completely. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Sprinkle with paprika before serving.
NEW Star Spangled Hot Dogs
Ingredients:
1 package of hot dogs 12 ounce package bacon American cheese slices Red, white and blue toothpicks
Directions:
Beginning on one end of hot dog take knife and split down the middle to other end. Be sure not to cut hot dog all the way through. Unwrap cheese slices and tear each piece into four strips. Place cheese strips into the split in the hot dog. Wrap each hot dog with a bacon slice. Place toothpicks into hot dogs to secure bacon. Place hot dog on stick. Cook over open fire until bacon and hot dog is cooked to your liking.
Super Easy Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients:
1 loaf frozen pound cake (thawed) 3 cups strawberries (sliced) 2/3 cups heavy cream 3 tablespoons powder sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Combine strawberries and powder sugar and mix well. Combine cream and vanilla and stir well. Slice pound cake and place each piece on a serving plate, top with a little strawberry mixture and a dollop of vanilla cream.
Easy Flag Cake
Ingredients:
1 white cake mix (or homemade cake) 3 cups strawberries (sliced) 1 1/2 cups blueberries 1 tub of whipped topping
Directions:
Bake the cake mix according to instructions and let cool. Leave cake in pan and top with 1 cup sliced strawberries and 1 cup blueberries. Top with all of the whipped topping. Place remaining strawberry slices and blueberries on whipped topping to create an American flag design. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Rocket Popsicles
Ingredients:
Red juice (cherry, raspberry, etc.) Blue juice (blue Kool Aid, etc.) White juice (white grape, lemonade, etc.) 3 oz. Paper cups Popsicle sticks
Directions:
Pour 2 tablespoons of red juice into each paper cups. Freeze 2 to 3 hours until firm and slushy (but not completely frozen). Remove from freezer and insert a popsicle stick into the center of each. Add 2 tablespoons white juice and freeze for another 2 to 3 hours. Remove from freezer and top off with blue juice. Freeze until completely frozen. Peel off paper cups and serve.
4th of July Cookie
Ingredients:
* The kids can have a lot of fun helping decorate this cookie.
1 package refrigerated sugar cookie dough 3 oz. Pkg. Cream cheese 1/3 cup powder sugar 3 tablespoons milk 1 tablespoon lemon juice Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet and then press the cookie dough into a rectangular shape that is about 1 inch thick. Press your thumbs into the edges to create a scalloped border. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Remove from the oven and cool completely. While the crust is cooling, mix the cream cheese, sugar, milk, and lemon juice. Spread over the cooled cookie. Arrange the fruit in an American flag design.
